TTÜ Estonian Maritime Academy centres in Kuressaare received a new common name: Centre for Blue Economy
"The new name will not change our previous plans, and teaching and R&D will continue in the same direction. The maritime economy is a system which includes, among others, maritime business, maritime tourism, shipbuilding and other areas related to the maritime and coastal economy. These are the themes specific to Saaremaa, which we are working on at the Centre for Blue Economy," said Anni Hartikainen, Head of the Centre for Blue Economy. "The name of the Centre for Blue Economy will help publicise the specifics of higher education and research services offered in Kuressaare. The name specifies our focus, but is broad enough to match the development potential of the centre. I believe that the clear, uniform identity of the center of Marine Academy located in Kuressaare is important also for the Saaremaa community,"explained Anni Hartikainen the name choice.
The Small Craft Competence Center (SCC) is part of the Centre for Blue Economy and continues its research and development activities. For businesses, the Small Craft Competence Center offers testing, design and material development services, as well as training and expertise.
