Digital Society and Big Data - CIDIC Conference in TTÜ
On October 10, European Centre for Economic, Academic & Cultural Diplomacy (CIDIC) held a conference Digital Society and Big Data in Tallinn University of Technology within Estonian DEAC days. The event was held in cooperation with CIDIC’s strategic partners – UNICA, Brussels Diplomatic Academy and Diplomatic World.
The visit was organized within the framework of Estonian presidency of the Council of the EU and the program in TTÜ was opened by Rector Jaak Aaviksoo. He started out with a short trip back in history, talking about the early days of digital Estonia and TTÜ’s role in it, and finished with today’s digital nightmare – cyber-attacks, how they affect economy and our everyday life.
After welcoming words by TTÜ Rector, Ms. Kris Dejonckheere, Secretary General of UNICA, made a short presentation on the role of university networks in Europe. The keyword was “trust” – in building networks. She also pointed out how Estonian presidency priorities in higher education fit into UNICA activities.
The rest of the conference was in the workshop form. Professors from Tallinn University of Technology, Tallinn University, University of Tartu and Vrije University in Brussels contributed to the overall topic of Digital Society and Big Data.
The delegation of about 20 people ended their day with CIDIC Awards Ceremony at Park Inn by Radisson Hotel followed by a reception hosted by Belgian Embassy. Among 4 award recipients was Lainergy, a TTÜ startup company.
