The need for labour force with higher and vocational education in the Estonian maritime sector in the years 2015-2025
According to the national development plan of Estonian Maritime Policy 2012-2020, maritime industry can be competitive only if well-trained and motivated people are working there. The Estonian Maritime Policy 2012-2020 defines the maritime education system as a whole maritime education summarizing complex which provides the maritime sector with the preparation of qualified specialists. The study on the need for labour force in the Estonian maritime sector is an initial study for developing the Estonian maritime educational concept, which is one of the measures in order to achieve the objectives set in the national development plan.
The information received from the Study is an important source of data for maritime education institutions and the State in order to design the training subscription. In addition, the results of the Study will be relevant to the Estonian Maritime Policy for further development. For example, based on the information received from the Study, it is possible to predict how many maritime specialists with different professions and educational levels are needed in the future.
The Study has been ordered by the Tallinn University of Technology and it is carried out by PRAXIS Center for Policy Studies. During the Study, approximately 500 maritime related companies will be surveyed and 44 interviews will be carried out with the key stakeholders.
The results of the Study will be published in spring 2015.
